Top 10: Bottled In Bond

It is with great pleasure (and a small amount of physical effort due to arm-wrestling over positions 4 and 5) that we present to you our Top 10 Bottled in Bond Whiskeys.

As you can imagine, this was yet again another Top 10 which took a considerable amount of time to nail down to the final ten, never mind the arduous task of deciding on places. We’ve had a heap of people reaching out to us asking for this particular list and as the trusted guardians of the self-titled home of bourbon online, we’ve listened. Or maybe it was just because we had nothing else to do?

Before we begin, here’s just a quick reminder of what defines a Bottled in Bond bourbon.

It is a government federal consumer protection law that received approval in 1897. It was largely lobbed by heavyweight whiskey producers in an attempt to guarantee authenticity. The rules, plain and simple, are as follows;

The whiskey must be…

  • The product of one distillation season, by the same distiller in the same distillery

  • Aged in a federally bonded warehouse for a minimum of 4 years

  • Bottled at a minimum of 50% ABV

  • The Distilled Spirits Plant Numbers (DSP) of both the production and bottling facilities must be on the label
